The project manager is a key person appointed to manage tasks in a project from its initial stage (approval) to project completion. The role of project manager is to manage the development, implementation and completion of a group of tasks or a group of projects. This key project participant takes overall accountability for establishing project base-line, managing project changes and controlling task performance. The area of responsibility of project manager concerns the activities like those:

Orientation to team collaboration and coordination should be the basic lines of project manager activities. Managing the team task performance, he determines whether overall project progress is recognized as a valid and acceptable against project plan. The project manager collects metrics data (such as baseline, task actual and estimated time, schedule, task priority and task statuses) and reports on project progress to stakeholders. Throughout the project life cycle the project manager is focused on intermediate and final outcomes to lead the project to succeeding. The project manager is involved in planning, controlling and monitoring the project, and also coordinating the assigned project resources to meet project objectives.

Here are some steps to set project manager's role in the project using VIP Task Manager Professional edition:
- Open a project database
- Go to Resource List view
- Create a new resource for project manager entering Name, Job Title, Email, Password, etc.
- In Roles panel create role "Project Manager"
- Select the resource and check the role "Project Manager" in
- In Task Tree view go to Permission panel
- Select appropriate resource of project manager
- Set allow/deny options to the resource according to the project policy
Note: In Resource List view there is default role "Unlimited" that grants unlimited and un-restricted permission to the project groups and tasks. You can use that role if a project manager in your project is about to have unlimited right and permissions. Then just create a resource for the project manager and check the role "Unlimited".
