Project Guidelines refer to a documented series of recommended practices of project management that project participants can use to interpret, implement and complete project activities and goals. They identify a preferred way of doing the project and lead the team towards successful accomplishment of all stages and phases of the project life-cycle.
Project guidelines are usually developed as a single document that comes with project planning documentation. This formal paper explains suggestions, tips and ideas about how to take a given project from complete design and planning through successful implementation and closure. It includes recommendations which are not obligatory for follow-up.
Project guidelines provide a clear insight into best practices, popular methods, and tools for efficiently carrying out project activities and processes. They are developed by project managers, often in cooperation with internal/external experts. As a rule, project guidelines are attached to project plans and used in planning recommendation course of action.
