Employee Inbreeding is a kind of behavior when managers and business owners tend to form up their project or business teams to be “a monolith” consisted of employees with whom they have a lot in common (similar ethics, vision, personal traits, etc), and adjust their selection policy to serve this aim in all respects. Actually the term “inbreeding” in this context refers to a situation when managers look for employing “clones” of their current “effective” workforce, so their staffs can look “homogeneous” because all candidates there were selected using some narrow, probably non-professional, selection criteria. At the first glance this strategy can look advantageous as people can feel comfortable among those who are quite similar to them, but employee inbreeding can be very counter-productive as it may lead to the following managerial misconducts:
- Employing friends and family members (usually it is a strong taboo in modern business);
- Employing people by “good guy” criteria, meaning that professional traits may be neglected;
- Nepotism, discrimination, or favoritism cases of different kinds;
