Employee Planning is a strategic process of systematic identification and analysis of an organization’s needs to determine what this organization requires in terms of the size, type, and quality of employed personnel to achieve its business objectives and goals. The process aims to define the most suitable mix of experience, knowledge, and skills that are required for employees to perform their duties and contribute to accomplishment of business objectives and goals.
Employee (workforce) planning helps companies to recruit and develop right number of employees that have right competencies to right jobs at right time. The process determines whether an organization employs right workforce that is able to reach corporate high-level goals and objectives through performing low-level tasks and activities.
In general, the process of employee planning comes in fours steps:
- Setting strategic direction: an organization defines what experience, knowledge, and skills employees should have to contribute to accomplishment of business goals and objectives.
- Analyzing workforce: employees and their competencies are analyzed to determine whether they have all necessary knowledge and skills to perform their jobs.
- Implementing the workforce plan: the organization develops an implementation plan that specifies workflow management processes and activities.
- Evaluating results: the organization reviews results produced by employees to define whether success is reach.
