Process Flow is an activity planning method that lets visually document all stages or steps involved in performing a certain process or activity. The method uses charts and diagrams to visualize process inputs, outputs and resources that are associated with every stage or step.
The method lets represent any process as a flow of specific information that determines Demand, Supply and Capacity of the process. These three aspects are analyzed to identify the process’s ability to be started, performed and completed. In case the analysis shows at least one of the aspects is failed the entire process appears to be ineffective, and therefore it is reasonably not to run such a process.
Use of the process flow method is much popular in business process management. Business managers prefer making their decisions based upon complete information (inputs, resources, outputs) about business processes. Flowcharting helps create a pictorial summary of business process stages, understand what inputs need to be converted into outputs, and what resources are available. With use of graphical algorithms business managers are enabled to understand process bottlenecks and see where errors and waste ñan potentially occur.
