Process History is a collection of past-periods data about some process. It is used in process analysis and serves as the basis for planning and forecasting. Process history is a kind of reporting tools used to summarize the work done and develop corrective actions to be used in future processes and activities.
Process history includes a range of events and circumstances that have happened and then have been collected and recorded. It is usually presented in the form of a historical report that organizes the events and circumstances chronologically. In such a report there can be specific measures that indicate past performance states of the process. The report is good for analyzing the process’s errors and uncovering cause-effect relationships.
Historical data of a process can be used in backward analysis to examine how the process is performed, including the following:
- Type of inputs provided at the beginning of the process
- Current state of process output ('produced' or 'in progress')
- Amount and types of resources consumed during the process
- Implementation rules and requirements.
