Project Investigator is a person who takes responsibility for performing the research and analysis of a project and its environment to identify potential problems and opportunities the project can address and to generate and propose one or several solutions. It is a role that requires the assigned person to put detailed attention on matters that concern the concept and background of the project.
The role of project investigator is usually assigned to a person who has good and long-time experience in project research and analysis. That person should know and understand all activities involved in the Initiation phase because during this phase research and investigation of the project are to be performed. The role requires the person to participate in project definition and analysis to develop a proposal document that explains the concept, problem and solution of the proposed project.
Project investigator closely collaborates with project initiator who provides strategic leadership and guidance. Both individuals need to make collaborative effort to justify their project and identify and describe benefits the project is expected to produce. Their work contributes to project planning and development.
