Project Outline is a document (or informal paper) that is designed to provide readers with a sense of a project in all its aspects. The project outline is normally composed with focusing on the idea to make a person who reviews this paper completely educated on aims, terms, products, restrictions, and conditions of a project – it is a brief summary that can be also called a project synopsis. It can be used to introduce a project to a wide audience or to those who would like to get familiarized with this project without delving into its details and studying more detailed documentation.
A project outline document usually embraces the following assumptions:
- Project ownership and stakeholders – entities or people which sponsor the project;
- Project scope and boundaries – what the project is about, and what lies beyond its interests;
- Project purpose and objectives – what goals this project is managed to achieve at the end;
- Project key definitions – some vital assumptions that a project is based upon;
- Project simplified plan – a way in which the project will be implemented to achieve its goals;
- Project success criteria – how the results will be judged and evaluated;
- Project benefits – positive effects that will be received after the project implementation;
