Project Planning Process is one of the key project management processes, which takes place once a project is initiated and should be transferred into a state of practical performance – this is a process of specifying the project work in comprehensive terms. This process includes:
- Listing the project tasks and organizing them into a work breakdown structure (WBS);
- Specification of the products to be created by the project – composing a product breakdown structure (PBS) and identifying measurable project objectives;
- Defining durations for all the tasks involved into the project, and linking them up to each other by logical dependencies (building an activity network diagram that helps to identify the critical path);
- Estimation of the necessary project resources and allocation of costs for each task, along with defining of the total project cost;
- Composing the project’s schedule and mapping out project milestones;
- Composing project plans to manage quality, human resources, communication methods, risk management, etc;
