What is Project Producer?

Project Producer is an individual or organization that organizes and controls project work throughout the project lifecycle. It is an executive role that entails administrative and financial control over the development and delivery of project goals and objectives. Project producer is ultimately responsible for creating project benefits and ensuring a satisfactory ROI (Return On Investment) for the investor (project sponsor).

 Project producer is usually appointed by project sponsor. An individual or organization assigned to this role needs to ensure acceptable project performance from the conceptual stage through completion. Project producer usually works with project manager who makes most of the strategic and day-to-day decisions on the project. Nevertheless, it is the producer who makes all final decisions regarding project management.

 Project producer makes sure that project manager stays within the budget and follows project schedules closely. This person/organization reports status of project benefits to the sponsor who may decide to stop or accelerate project development.
