Project Stage, in spite of common and frequent use, is not a solely defined term yet – sometimes it addresses the standard phases of project development (e.g. definition, initiation, planning, etc) or describes more specific steps on a project’s progress (for example in the construction industry it may be stages of “laying a house foundation”, “building communications”, etc). Utilization of the term project stage as a reference to a specific step taking place within certain project phase is OK in the most cases, so it is understandable both to professionals and to lay people.
In other words it is correct to say that some project, let’s say a home construction, is on the phase of implementation (project execution) and on the stage of erecting the walls – in this example the term project stage is a sub-step within a greater phase, where “a phase” stands for administrative and generalized approach, while “a stage” is a completely specific measure of practical progress upon the work included into this particular project’s scope.
