Project Total Float is the amount of time that a task in a project network can be delayed without delaying the overall project’s completion date. This term is used in CPM (Critical Path Method) that recognizes Critical Path of a project, which includes all tasks where a delay impacts the time when the overall project will be completed. In other words, total float is used to measure flexibility in the project schedule: it shows the project manager how many of relevant time units (days, hours, etc) an activity can be delayed before the project’s date of completion must be shifted too. To determine whether a task has certain total float time it is necessary for project manager to:
- Estimate durations of project tasks;
- Define relations (dependencies) between tasks;
- Build a network diagram of project tasks;
- Determine the difference between the early finish and late finish dates of a task;
