Schedule Model is a description of means, methods and tools that determine the timing of tasks and activities which are placed on a given schedule. It aims to reach better planning and management of working time through creating a detailed representation that shows the most approximate and desired distribution of scheduled tasks and activities in a timeline.
Schedule models serve as the inputs for final versions of schedules. For example, a model of project schedule represents a timeline with scheduled tasks and activities. It is an approximate representation that determines how the project manager plans available project for consumption. The model can be revised and amended many times until the best and most desirable time passage is found. Then the model is used to develop the project schedule.
Designing, evaluating and using various models of schedules is called schedule modeling approach. This approach is used in various fields of management to determine a better way of time usage and control through designing a model that represents a desired passage of time during which scheduled tasks and activities are expected to be performed. When there are two or more schedule models, they are consolidated into a schedule network.
