Schedule Modification means certain corrections added to a project or business schedule in order to respect some emergent events or impact of external factors. Schedule modification can mean both schedule shortening and schedule shifting into future, as well as schedule update because of some changes made in timeframes of the tasks recorded in this schedule (re-scheduling of certain tasks or assigned resources). There are different conceptions for schedule modification:
- In employee scheduling a modification may refer to updating of rotation or shifting pattern (as several employees are temporarily out due to sickness, or someone was discharged, etc), adding more working days into calendar to compensate unplanned days-off (or vice versa), replacement of employees, and other optimization actions to keep the business activity running seamlessly;
- Project schedule modification is usually an effort motivated by some external or internal factors which are out of strong control for management. Schedule re-examination & following revision can happen when the customer decides to change project scope (to add or reduce some options and specifications), so the project calendar will be extended or reduced by necessary amount of days, weeks, etc;
