What is Schedule of Works

Schedule of Works is a categorized and scheduled list of activities necessary to accomplish a project. It is a practical itemization of tasks and working phases, along with chronology of their occurrence, which is generated from project requirements and work breakdown structure. Schedule of works is often used as a supportive visualization of project plan (project timeline) to fixate contracted terms in a tabular format where project activities, deliverables and phases are structured plainly. 

Every working item in the list can be associated with appropriate price (or a complex estimate of costs) to be paid out for completing it, so a schedule of works can be used as a statement of progress payments (see what is schedule of values) for contractors to get paid progressively for work they accomplish, and also as a project performance monitoring tool for the project customers to learn a percentage of project work (e.g. construction) completed. In other words a schedule of works can be used to track expenses that have been achieved for particular items of work.
