Task Attribute is a descriptive characteristic or parameter that defines key information about a relating task or activity. It determines behaviors of the task and communicates task data to assigned employees. For example: priority, duration, status, time left, cost, goal are attributes of some task.
Attributes define tasks. A task with no attributes is undefined. Task analysis helps create attributes for tasks. It uses historical data to forecast task behaviors and determine what attributes are necessary to ensure these behaviors. By using attributes in specific math formulas it is possible to create key performance indicators that help figure out if forecasted behaviors are reached.
In terms of task analytics, attributes serve as the input data for using analytical tools and solutions. For example, OLAP cube is built upon dimensions which in turn consist of measures. Task attributes define cube dimensions and create categories of measures. Another example: task burn-down chart shows work progression established by such attributes as actual time and planned time.
