Task Automation is a method of implementing tasks and controlling their performance automatically without or with minimized effort of human resources being involved in the implementation process. The purpose of the method is to utilize fewer human resources to do routine or repetitive work in a simplified and more efficient manner.
When a task is automated, it reaches the state of being automatically performed and controlled by an assigned employee. Such a task has goals, resources and time limits clearly defined and allocated before the task gets started. It means there is some plan that makes the task (which would otherwise has been performed manually) much more efficient. Such a plan is called "task automation plan".
A typical task automation plan addresses the following issues:
- Definition (what task to perform, what goals to reach, how the task relates to other tasks etc.).
- Scheduling (how much time is available for doing the task).
- Implementation (what resources, equipment, and tools are supposed to be utilized for doing the task).
- Tracking (how to control and monitor the task and measure its performance).
