Task Aversiveness is a term used by psychologists and time managers – it is what makes us to put off things which we don’t like to do: in a result this habit very often leads us to procrastination of an aversive task. Task aversiveness is caused by a task’s qualities which make us to feel any level of physical or emotional discomfort when we do this work: this can happen because we consider a task as boring, frustrating, unpleasant, wearisome, difficult, or resented. We can face aversive tasks both at our workplaces and homes – in both cases presence of such tasks can make us feeling stressed, demoralized, depressed and hence can cause great obstacles for work further progress, but there are several ways and psychological techniques to overcome this problem:
- Finding correct drivers (motivation) to complete aversive tasks – for example to envisage worth of their results which you are going to enjoy after the work is done;
- Understanding that aversive tasks, being the hardest part of your workloads, once complete will make you leave the toughest job behind, while only easier & more pleasant tasks will be ahead;
- Cultivating professional approach – adherence to workflows and methods helping you to do this work faster and with less efforts, mitigating unpleasant factors;
