Task Characteristic is certain feature that is attributed to every particular item of work which can be alternatively called a work package, but we know it as simply a task. Task characteristic makes a task measurable and controllable, so you can clearly anticipate resources and methods you will need for completing it. When you describe a task you need some characteristics to express its profile and its features – these task characteristics make possible to evaluate and estimate a task. The basic task characteristics comprise:
- Cost – an amount of financial resources to be spent on task completion;
- Effort – an amount of man-days or man-hours you need to complete this task;
- Resource – equipment, manpower, materials and tools to be involved;
- Duration – expected length of task, when certain resources are assigned (the more resources are assigned and the higher their capabilities are, the faster a task can be done, however, this works not for all types of work, see What is task crashing);
- Purpose and Value of the Task – a way in which completion of this task contributes into completion of certain project or success of business;
