Task State is a rarely used synonym for task status. Task state is a documented (regular) status of a task, which is to be tracked and analyzed by the management for defining a degree to which a task is currently completed. Task state is to be:
- Regularly reported to the management, along with practical task performance;
- Approved by those who report (employees or their managers should provide certain prove);
- Verified by the management, so the management can be sure that a task follows the right course of its progression (performance of the task suits the plan);
Reporting a task state is an effective way for management to capture readiness of a task with a set of underlying parameters. Task state usually includes the following matters to be reviewed:
- Quantitative and qualitative indicators attributed to progress reached on the task, such as costs, time, compliance of results with specifications, etc;
- Step of the task progress (current stage or milestones on the way of task performance) or percent of task completion;
- Reports on issues, noticeable facts, explanations, etc;
