Initiating process group is the first phase (process group) among other process groups, executed at the beginning of a project in order to perform all pre-requisite activities in order to get prepared for a project. This process group defines and authorizes the entire project. Initiating process group includes identifying and defining project risks, assumptions and constraints, defining project scope, identifying process resources and making initial costs estimation, introducing and authorization of project manager, providing due-diligence process. The main objective on this process group is to develop the project charter, get rights to involve necessary resources and obtain approval to start real work on the project. Initiating process group is one of the five project process groups that are specifically referred to the phases of project initiating, planning, executing, monitoring or controlling, and finally the project closing.
