Time Tracking and Project Management are two closely interrelated practices, as time tracking is an indispensable component of project controlling making sure that project is on the right course. Time tracking in a project is based on the following assumptions:
- Project Schedule – general timeline of project deliverables and milestones, defining the main project timeframe and constraints (due dates). Sometimes, any significant non-meeting of the constraints provided by the project schedule is a critical fail;
- Project Plan – estimated durations of all project tasks, stages, phases, and amount of working hours assigned to manpower and equipment to complete each of the tasks. Non-meeting of time constraints for matters listed in the working plan may cause severe delay on the major project schedule, and finally postpone (or even collapse) the entire project;
- Requirements on accuracy – sometimes, due to a high allowance of risks, some of tasks may be attributed to have certain time lags (safe level of procrastination);
All these things can be managed with a help of specific software, such as time tracking in Microsoft Project (which, however, can be considered as excessive solution for needs of small and medium companies). You can also learn the review for a sample of software (that can perfectly satisfy more modest needs that are mainly concentrated at tracking of tasks, business goals, jobs, etc):
VIP Task Manager is a project management product for SME, and it can be used by project managers for planning and controlling project time parameters in order to identify evolution or defections over the project’s execution.
For effective managing your project in terms of time and tasks – do the following:
- start your project management software;
- organize your project on the Task Tree view;
- plan and schedule your project tasks in terms of their time, costs, etc;
- assign tasks to employees and track their performance;
- analyze results via using Filters, Footers and Custom Fields to know if execution meets the project plan;
CentriQS Task Scheduling Solution CentriQS users can choose the most convenient way to schedule tasks. If most of your tasks require scheduling, you can add new tasks directly in the Scheduler view. If you schedule tasks from task list, you can drag'n'drop created tasks to the Scheduler panel. If you set task start and finish dates and time, you can do this on the Schedule tab of task detail view. Also CentriQS supports "splitting task" into multiple schedule items in case you plan to break task into parts and schedule them at different time and days of the week. |
